In the Gypsy area of the town of Shuman thousands of Gypsies live in appalling conditions. Families of five or more are living in single room shacks. Poverty and ignorance of health & hygiene principles, together with a lack of sanitation, causes many avoidable health problems, particularly among the women and children.

Two years ago 65 Gypsy believers used to meet in a 3 x 3 metre single room house. To accommodate the growing numbers there were two Church meetings a week with forty attending each service.

Global Compassion purchased the only available land in the area and is now engaged in a building project that will serve as a Church building, clinic and community resource centre. The church building is open but not yet complete. It accommodates around 350 gypsies who have come to the Lord since the revival began when the building opened.

Global Compassion has already enlisted the help of a number of trained nurses who have lectured on health issues for the Gypsy women.

COC Weilheim is especially involved in financial assistance and missions to Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where the COC Church is helping to meet the needs of the Gipsy children in the area. The local COC church there is also building a church complex which we are helping with where possible.
